President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. visits the City of Gingoog and leads the distribution of various government assistance

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. receives reports on the extent of damages brought by heavy rainfall and flash floods caused by the shear line in Gingoog City and other municipalities within the Province of Misamis Oriental as he leads a situation briefing with Northern Mindanao Regional Line Agency Directors and local government officials on January 11, 2023. In a report by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region X on 7 January 2023, some 18,015 families or 82,765 individuals were affected by the continuous heavy downpour of rain and flooding incidents in Misamis Oriental, of which 10,302 families or 48,183 individuals are living in Gingoog City. The shear line, also called the ‘Tail-end of Frontal System’, is the interaction between cold air or the northeast monsoon (hanging amihan) and warm air or the easterlies. The wind convergence causes heavy rains and cloudiness over affected areas.

Marcos Jr. leads the distribution of various government assistance to the victims of heavy rains and flash floods, as well as other government program beneficiaries, during his visit to Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental on January 11, 2023. Around PhP7.5 million worth of cash assistance are given to an estimated 1,500 beneficiaries, with each of them receiving PhP5,000 from the President and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). The beneficiaries also receive food and relief packages during the aid distribution.
